The region features two ski areas, neither of which is too big by European standards, so a visitor can easily navigate the groomed terrain, but a guide is essential for those wishing to travel off piste. The Valtellina Valley is famous all over Italy for its food and wine - not to mention breathtaking scenery - making Livigno a legit gastronomic destination. The town also has its own brewery, which is at the highest elevation in the Alps. Day ski trips to Bormio and Scoul in Switzerland should be part of the agenda.
